"All the world's a cage." ~Heanne Philips

YSL cage booties hit the runway in Spring 09. These shoes will definitely make you stop in your tracks to gawk at the one who dons them. Whether that gawk one of awe, shock, confusion, or wonderment each person has their own opinion. Nevertheless these shoes are definitely a STATEMENT piece.

Tis the Season

Love Love Vogue's list of 10 gifts under $30...

My favorite item on their list is the set of 4 Ikat-print journals $29.95 from Nate Berkus' HSN collection (oh NB... you and your love of Ikat and chain links. I should have known!)

There'll Be No School Tomorrow If It Snows... (if only it applied to work!)

Chicago Winter is officially here. Over the past few days we have been hit with snow, rain and ice. Today's temperature hovered right around 3 degrees for the majority of the day. In the name of fashion practicality usually goes out the window... but in this weather some compromises have to be made (usually in order to protect my well-being as I am a master clutz).  No matter how I may struggle to be chic while battling the elements... I always manage to resemble the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man in my down winter coat, UA running tights and suede furry boots (not pretty I know but practical.. Yes!).  Today's post is an ode to some stylish ladies who manage to look sophisticated even in the most Arctic like climates ... albeit if only in the movies!

Crafty Haven

The world is but a canvas to the imagination. ~Thoreau

If I had my dream home I would have a room dedicated solely to crafting!  And in this room I would put the Pottery Barn Bedford Project Table Set   On sale for $949 (normally $1157)..  So much space to spread out my projects and at the same time keep everything organized and close at hand!

(... as a matter of fact with unlimited funds I may try to copy this entire room!) Alas, my due to a minimal budget I may have to consider the Target version Adams Craft Table at a much more reasonable $127.99

The only downside is that it doesn't break down into separate pieces like the Bedford... and it doesn't come in the pretty Antique White color. Oh well. Some exceptions need to be made in the name of being wallet friendly.  Hmm.. with all the money I would save; just think of all the extra supplies I could buy! ... WAIT.. that defeats the purpose of saving money in the first place. I must stop my overactive imagination before it gets too out of hand!

Hope you had a Happy Monday!

If my head wasn't attached I'd lose that too...

I am always the one who is misplacing my keys inside of the refrigerator, searching frantically for my glasses only to realize that I am wearing them, finding that I have left my phone at home on the charger when I get to work..... Well you get the picture. If you know me then you know that I am the epitome of forgetful. Not too sure how I feel about wall stickers but I do know that a blatant sign that forces me to STOP.. think about what I have in my pockets/ purse before I leave the house would be a great thing for me to have.

This "Before You Leave" decal from Hu2 design is just the thing I need so I never (hopefully) forget my phone at home again. It is a little bit pricey at approx $25 USD (£15).. but just imagining the headache/ irritation it could save me on a daily basis is well worth the price!

Look- A- Like of the day!

First of all... sorry for the lack of updates in the past few.. months. Oooops! Work/ life has been hectic. But now onto the fun stuff!!!

On today's agenda: a beautiful bag.. perfect for any season... especially fall and winter.. if you know me I am partial to BIG bags. I have been lusting over the Foley + Corinna Reversible Mid City Tote for some time now. It's simple, chic and multi-faceted... You can carry it by the handle or fold over the top and use the arm strap And!!!! it's reversible.. one side is leather the other side is suede. PRETTY! Needless to say the $485 price tag put a screeching halt to my dreams.

... but then I came across an eerily similar bag at Newport News for a fraction of the cost.. normally.. $49 on sale for $39

Deja Vu anyone!?! Sadly there is no suede and not real leather.. but if it's the look that you are going for this is definitely a winner!!!!! Hmmm should I buy it?! Or wait to see if the price drops even further... I think I'm just being spoiled now......

***UPDATE 12/4/09***
The trickle down effect is in full swing! Today I spotted the Roxy Never Far Bag on sale for $34.99 originally $48.50 on Pacsun.com .... eerily similar design don't you think!

Update 12/8/09
Revolveclothing.com has a dark gold version of the City Tote on sale for $340. I never thought about owning a gold bag.. but hey.. Why Not? It certainly can be just as neutral as a black or beige bag. And certainly more punchy!
PS... they also have it in a clutch version for $311

Chocolate Torte

Those who know me know that I LOVE to bake! It is not even that I bake so that I can eat all of the tasty morsels of sweets but I just love the act of baking. The other day I stumbled upon this decadent looking chocolate torte on Designsponge that I may have to experiment with soon.

Boots for all seasons

So I am completely and utterly addicted to boots. Living in the Chicagoland area has created a boot-loving monster out of me. They are the most reasonable and versatile piece of footwear for well... pretty much September through May. I love and own all sorts of boots.. flats, furry, chunky heeled, stiletto, galoshes, knee high, ginormous 100 lb (feeling) Colombia snow boots. Although it is now "spring" in Chicago and yes I put the phrase spring in quotations as it is supposed to snow this lovely weekend in the end of MARCH/ beginning of April. I recently squealed with delight when I scored a deal for a new pair of beautiful knee high black leather Corsair boots. The best part about it was that they had one pair of these lovely shoes left and they were exactly my size 8.5 anddddd they were on sale for $40 normally $178. Why they were on sale in store when they aren't online, I dont know and I don't care!

So during my daily internet browsings I have come across the rampant popularity of the workman-esque lace up black heeled boots. I have been considering buying this style for a while but many times the price tag comes between me and my fantasies. But then I saw these!

On sale for $18.99 you can't go wrong. Now I must seriously consider how these will blend with my current wardrobe. Time to daydream some more... If only I had the wardrobe matching system in the world of Clueless......

Fortune Cookie

I always thought that fortune cookies were supposed to a)tell a fortune b) say something somewhat thought provoking. c) at least say something positive. .. That is until I opened up my fortune cookie the other day while dining out with my fam.
This is what my fortune said:

"There are always more fish in the sea, not as cute, nor as rich, but fish nevertheless."

... How depressing is that! Here's looking forward to a positive new year.
