A Princess in McQueen

Congratulations to the new Mrs. Mountbatten-Windsor..
Erggg I mean the Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus..
Wow that is a mouth-full!
Prince William and Kate Middleton finally got married... and what was the most important part of the ceremony? The fashion of course!
The bride donned a beautiful Alexander McQueen lace gown, Cartier tiara on loan from the Queen, and diamond earrings given to her as a wedding gift from her parents.

Lady in Waiting and Sister of the Bride, Pippa Middleton, also wore Alexander McQueen.
Mum of the Bride, Carole Middleton, in a skyblue Catherine Walker dress and coat, topped off with a Jane Corbett hat.

.. And of course the Queen looking radiant in a bright yellow Angela Kelly suit...
Becks looked dapper in a Ralph Lauren suit and Posh in one of her own designs.

.. And oh, the hats & headpieces....

Adieu Fair Typewriter.

via
As big of a tech nerd as I am, I've always thought that there is something soothing about the sounds of a typewriter clicking away. This week, it was reported that the world's last typewriter manufacturer- Godrej and Boyce (Mumbai, India)- has shut down production. The first typewriter prototype was introduced in 1714 by Henry Mill, it went into mass production in 1868 and hit peak production in the 1950's. Due to the birth of the electronic age, only 400,000 typewriters have been sold annually since 2009. Before the computer I remember using our typewriter... learning to type for the first time, changing the ribbons, & using white out when you made a mistake.
Also, I must admit that I am a sucker for receiving a REAL letter in the mail. It is wonderful to have something solid to hold in your hand. Something that has been a labor of love from another.
Whether for fashion or function..  here is an ode to you dearly departed typewriter...

Talk Phonetics to Me....

My work life mainly consists of me talking in code all day about part numbers and technical jargon. On a routine basis my customers say to me ".. you must have been in the military..." No sir, I just speak in phonetics all day. Trust me, I would rather pick words from this chart but somehow I don't think that would go over to well...
Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Happy Monday!

Live to Dream: Nirrimi Hakanson

What did you do as a teenager to make some extra money... babysit, mow lawns, work retail?
At only 18 years old, Nirrimi Hakanson is an award winning photographer who already has a national ad campaign under her belt. A native of North Queensland,  she picked up her first camera at 13 and was signed to an agency by 16. Whether shooting for brands such as Diesel or taking pictures of her sister and friends in her homeland, Nirrimi's images are vibrant with rich textures and yet they exude a soulfulness. Of her work Nirrimi says "Photography took my hands and led me to a personal paradise at age thirteen, and I’ve been self-taught and seeing life through a lens since. My aspirations are heaven high and my potential and dedication higher still. I have a peculiar vision of beauty- I see beautiful where others don’t think to look and I capture it all so they do. I want to be shooting for Vogue before I’ve even reached adulthood. Can you imagine? I am really just an artist who spends more time dreaming than living and wants to finally live!"
I can't wait for to see where Nirrimi's talent will take her in her career... Keep an eye out for this one! At the pace she has been working, she is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Here are a few of her breathtaking images... For more check out her portfolio, flickr or blog
